The American Jack Russell Terrier Club est. 1995 is the first breed registry in the US to separate the 10” to 12” Jack Russell Terrier as a separate breed from the Parsons Russell Terrier. Australia led the world in the separation of the two breeds in 1991 in the strictest sense and their standard has been universally applied to the Jack Russell Terriers. We are pleased to announce our application for inclusion into the AKC FSS has been accepted by the Committee. The process to get set up is lengthy. We will keep you informed over the next couple of months as to our progress. The AKC FSS is our first step to becoming a recognized breed. Typically it takes many years of work from dedicated fanciers to move a breed from the FSS to full recognition. Fanciers must prove there is enough interest in the breed and that breeders have used breeding practices that insure the dogs in the AKC studbook are purebred. We have much work to do in the future.

The AKC Committee has officially approved the name for the FCI Jack Russell Terrier in America to be "Russell Terrier". The name Jack Russell Terrier created a conflict with existing Jack Russell Terrier Clubs in the U. S. and Great Britain and could not be used by the AKC. The name in no way reflects a different breed. The FCI standard for the Jack Russell Terrier will be the same standard used for the AKC Russell Terrier. The American Jack Russell Terrier Club has changed the name of our club per the request of AKC to accurately describe the breed in the U.S.
This past weekend Bizzy earned his U-AgI title in UKC Agility Level 1 on Saturday Jan. 21, 2006. He was just awesome! Staci is our first ARTC member to receive this title. A huge congratulations to Staci and Bizzy!!

July 8, 2006,
The American Russell Terrier Club "ARTC" was contacted by the American Russell Terrier Foundation Club "ARTFC". We extended to them the willingness of our membership to communicate to best serve the Russell Terrier. The clubs are corresponding with all communications sent directly to the office of Mari-Beth O'Neill. Over the past several months we have established a professional relationship with the American Jack Russell Terrier Association. We have included their club in this correspondence to keep the Russell Terrier Fanciers abreast of our proceedings and to include their input. Communication is the key to all Fanciers working together for the best interests of the breed. The American Russell Terrier Foundation Club did request the two clubs enter into mediation. Mediation was not a course of recommendation by the AKC for the two clubs. It was merely a suggestion as for some clubs it has worked effectively. One very important stipulation Mari-Beth did make was that if the two clubs in fact did enter into mediation the entire membership of both clubs would have to vote on it. The American Russell Terrier Club did not approve mediation at this time. This decision does not mean it is absolutely not an option. What may transpire in the future for both clubs is undecided at this time. We want to keep the lines of communication open and work towards the future in a positive manner. Our only concern is what is truly best for the breed and that our membership will collectively agree to all future actions of our club. I believe all of us have a great love for this little dog and its a great responsibility we have been given to insure we do things for all the right reasons
