May 14, 2009 The Russell Terrier is going into Miscellaneous Class effective January 1, 2010!!! The American Russell Terrier Club will serve as the AKC Parent Club to represent the Russell Terrier and will be eligible to compete in the Miscellaneous Class, effective January 1, 2010.
December 10, 2008 The breed standard committe completed the breed standard and it is approved by the BOD. Waiting approval of AKC and then will be submitted to the membership for a vote before going into Misc.
December 8, 2008 As of 12-1-08 there are 1616 Russell enrolled in FSS 1119 with at least 3 generation pedigrees.

January 24, 2007 As per the AKC current Russell Terrier numbers are 1315. This includes all the single registrations since the 2 registries went in.
Sept 1, 2006 Russell Terrier numbers are at: 1195 as of this date.
August 11, 2006 It's official!!! The Russell Terrier has been approved to compete in Earthdog and AKC Companion Events for January 2007. This includes Agility & Obedience! This also means that those with spay/neutered Russell Terriers can apply for ILP numbers now.

The ARTC submitted 777 dogs to FSS in January of 2006 from over 500 owners and breeders.
June 8, 2006 The petition for the breed to be able to participate in the Companion Events and Earthdog will be presented to the Board in July and August for eligibility to participate effective January 1, 2007. After the date is set, ILP numbers will be issued for those who want to apply! If you have already received your FSS certificates, there is no need to apply for an ILP number, this is only for those with spay/neutered dogs.
June 2, 2006 The ARTC submitted a letter to Mari-Beth O'Neill requesting the inclusion of the Russell Terrier to compete in AKC Earth Dog events.
May 25, 2006 As soon as enough of our dogs are processed (about 150), ~will be very soon as many of our members are receiving their certificates~ Ms. O' Neill will submit our request to the committee to add our breed to the Companion Events. These include, Earthdog, Agility, Obedience... Once the breed is approved by the Board with a date established, individuals may submit applications for ILP numbers. We didn't ask when individual FSS Applications would be accepted. Right now it looks like that date (eligibility for Companion Events & Earthdog) will "probably" be Jan of 2007!! Things are moving fast. If you have received an FSS certificate, you don't need to apply for an ILP number. I just included that information for those who have spay/neutered dogs that didn't go in with one of the registries and have been waiting to apply for ILP numbers to compete in the companion events.

May 19, 2006 AKC FSS registrations are being mailed out!!! Our first club member received hers today. This is so exciting!!!
April 20, 2006: AKC Registration.
- Individual FSS applications may be submitted to AKC for inclusion into the FSS Russell Terrier registry when AKC opens the Russell Terrier registry. They must include a registration and pedigree from either the American Jack Russell Terrier Association, the English Jack Russell Terrier Club Alliance or the United Kennel Club along with their Individual FSS application to be considered for registration.
- Imported dogs can be submitted with their FCI/ANKC Jack Russell Terrier importation papers along with the AKC FSS application.
- ILP applications may be submitted at that time also.
- It is solely up to the discretion of AKC what applications will be accepted.

March 30, 2006 Letter from AKC acknowledging our request to go into the Companion Events.
March 24, 2006:The ARTC registry has been reviewed and approved by AKC. Our records have been sent to the registration department to be recorded. Due to the large numbers in our registry it will be a long process to add all of our Russells into the AKC data base. Be prepared to wait for your AKC registrations. Mari-Beth O'Neill herself asked we notify everyone to please avoid calls asking when you will receive your registration papers as it will only delay the process. I have also submitted a request to the AKC Committee to expedite our inclusion into the Companion Events since our registration numbers far exceeded the requirements. We have met the challenge of beginning the process in the AKC FSS working towards becoming an AKC recognized breed. The many years of hard work by our members and their dedication to the breed has resulted in the realization of our goals. Back in 1994 when our work began it seemed like an impossible journey. They told us we couldn't do it, but the little green frogs never gave up. The ARTC AKC Russell Terrier has arrived. In addition I want to remind everyone we have much work ahead of us. Given the past performance of our club and members I am sure we are up for the task.

February 23, 2006 The AJRTC received a list of names from Christine Weisse AKC Special Services on February 23, 2006. The list was compromised of terriers registered in both registries with discrepancies. Our club was requested to verify the information. It has come to our attention the American Russell Terrier Foundation Club and officers have given numbers to stock that was exclusively registered with our club and never legitimately registered with the either the Russell Terrier Foundation Club or the American Russell Terrier Foundation Club. The use of stock without authorization of the owners to further their registry and promote it as the largest oldest registry in the US is misrepresentation on their part. The AJRTC will move forward with AKC to resolve this matter.

What is the process for becoming a Parent Club for the Russell Terrier?
The Parent Club for the breed will be picked right before the breed goes into Miscellaneous class. Eligibility will be considered on many different factors. In the meantime we will all just get out and have fun with our dogs!!
When will the breed be eligible to participate in the companion events?
Ms. O'Neill is working towards the goal of Jan 1, 2007, if not then July 1, 2007. It will probably be July 1, 2007.
When will the breed enter Miscellaneous classes to show in AKC Conformation?
If everything goes according to plans as soon as Jan 1, 2008!

No, after 11 years, the oldest registry in the US exclusively for the short dogs, has completely turned over our records to AKC and are no longer accepting registrations.
January 2006: Our 11 years of club records were submitted to AKC FSS for their approval. We are grateful to Mari-Beth O'Neill who is in charge of this huge project for her willingness to see it through and her tenaciousness in sticking to the FCI breed standard for this wonderful breed. And of coarse her fair evaluation of everything involved.
